“Night Watch” (2004)

A fantasy-thriller set in present-day Moscow where the respective forces that control daytime and nighttime do battle.

“House of Fools” (2002)

 

Psychiatric patients become entrenched in the Chechen War after the staff split to find them a safer hospital. Soldiers take over the asylum, and then a young female patient falls in love with soldier, which leaves her boyfriend, Bryan Adams (playing himself), in a lurch. Based on a true story.

“Anna Karenina” (1997)

Leo Tolstoy's classic tale follows the heartbreaking romance between the aristocratic Anna Karenina (Marceau) and Count Alexei Vronsky (Bean). Anna, though a wife and mother, plunges into a tempestuous affair with the dashing Vronsky, shocking Russian society and rending her family apart. Their liaison is contrasted with the romance and marriage of their friends Levin and Kitty, who find increasing happiness and fulfillment as their relationship deepens over time. The passion, desperation and despair of one couple, and the warmth and devotion of the other, trace two separate choices in love, and reveal the consequences of each.
